This guide will teach you how to create and install the independence exploit using gameshark and a usb drive.
Required Items:
Chubby Style PS2
Original PS1 Disk
Gameshark with usb support
USB drive that is recognized by Gameshark
Confirmed Working With:
Gameshark 2 v1.2
Gameshark 2 v1.1
Required Software/Files:
uLaunchElf v4.06-Hosted By SKSAPPS.COM
PS2SaveBuilder 0.8-Hosted By SKSAPPS.COM
IDGET v1.0
Titleman Frontend
Ok, begin by downloading all of those files to a new folder on your computer. Extract all the files to the same directory. Begin by inserting your PS1 disk into your computers cd drive, and run IDGET.exe.
In the program select the drive that the PS1 disk is in, and press "Get".
Remember this ID, or leave the program running for the next step.
Now lets open up titleman frontend. You will be presented with a dialog, just press OK.
Now click the button labeled "Create TITLE.DB". You will be presented with another message box, again just press OK to dismiss it.
From the dropdown box select the appropriate item, which for me is SLUS_.(Note: if yours isn't in the dropdown, type it in, but make sure to use all caps) Then in the box next to it, enter the rest of what IDGET gave you, which for me is 005.94.
Then press "Add Exec", and then "List current contents of TITLE.DB"
You should see a few entries, the third one should be the value you entered.
Now we are done with this program and can exit.
Open up ps2save-builder.exe, which is where we will create the exploit file.
In the "Root/ID field at the top, enter BADATA-SYSTEM for NTSC(US) PS2's or BEDATA-SYSTEM for PAL(European) PS2's. So in my case I enter BADATA-SYSTEM.
Now open up the folder where you extracted all of your files to, and drag the BOOT.ELF file into PS2 savebuilder. Now go into the folder titlemanfrontend, and drag the TITLE.DB file to PS2 Savebuilder.
Click on File->Save As...
From the "Save as type" dropdown choose "Sharkport(*.md)" enter a filename, and press save. Rename this file to "Your SystemConfiguration.ps2", without the quotes obvously. (Note: there is no space between System and Configuration)
Please contact me if you can provide images of the install via gameshark.
OK now that all the hard work is done, start up Gameshark on the PS2, and navigate to the memory card. Delete the file named "Your System Configuration".
Now tell Gameshark to copy the file from the usb drive to the memory card.
When it finished writing, reboot with your trigger disk in the drive, and you should see a nice friendly uLaunchElf screen like this:
NOTE: GAMESHARK IS PRETTY LAME, SO THIS DOESN'T ALWAYS WORK PROPERLY; BUT IF IT DOES, I WOULD APPRECIATE IT IF YOU WOULD POST EXACTLY WHICH VERSION OF GAMESHARK THAT YOU USED.

yessssssssssss it worked! you are the man!!
When i copied "Your SystemConfigutation.ps2" to the mem card it showed "?" where the name of the file should be. I didn't think it would work but i figured what the hell and loaded the psx game...... and BAM! it did work!
Thanks for helping me out on this. I wasnt sure what format to save the file in.
BTW, I used Gameshark 2, v 1.2.
If you need any more details about the version, just post back and I will check back on here in a few days. |

I used the IsCentral Exploit utility v5 I believe. However, after converting the output file with savebuilder, remaning, and copying over with gameshark it worked beautifully!!
I used Gameshark 2 v1.2 (upper left of UPC box) and a PNY 512mb Flash drive.
My ps2 doesn't like running this disc. It hits it with the laser and scuffs the disc. So I copied the file from usb to MC with a slim model. |

BTW This version of Gameshark (1.2) is currently available at pretty much all wal-marts for 20 bux.
I made a swap key with an old credit card and combined with cogswap elf it works perfectly. |

| I have tested this method with the Gameshark 2 1.1 and there is 1 modification to your tutorial that you need to make. Where it says to delete the existing Your SystemConfiguration.ps2 file needs to be updated for v1.1 to say to just overwrite the existing file because otherwise it will not work. |

Doesn't work for me with Gameshark 2 v1.1 (UPC reads GMCC82ABZ, "Pre-loaded with over 60,000 cheat codes!" on the cover of the box). When I copy the file from the usb drive to the memory card, it retains the .ps2 extension. In fact, after copying the file, the memory card contains an entry for "Your SystemConfiguration.ps2" and another entry right below it for "Your SystemConfiguration". When I reboot with the target PSX game in the drive, the ulaunchelf screen doesn't show up.
I tried copying a savegame file (.md extension) from the gameshark website to the memory card; the exact filename shows up on the memory card. This leads me to think that this version of Gameshark 2 doesn't actually support savegame copying. |

Worked with my GS 1.2, but I had some trouble getting it on the memory card.
Deleting the configsave in GS resulted in it not working, had to delete it in PS2 browser, reboot GS, then overwrite it with the one from USB.
When I view the MC with PS2 browser, the file shows up as corrupt data, but it's working fine with the trigger disc.
Thanks!! |

| Is this only for Chunky PS2s? I can get as far as transferring the save and starting up the disc but nothing comes up. If you have any answers please e-mail me at punk_of_awareness@yahoo.com. Thanks in advance. |

| Read the PS2 FAQ, the answer is yes, it only works on the chubby consoles. |
